What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical Counseling is the approach to counseling that understands that the One who knows everything about us is the One who created us.  God has been pleased in His Word (the Scriptures) to tell us a lot about ourselves, the human condition, the root causes of what we experience in life, and His approach to how difficulties can be addressed most effectively.  Because He created us body and spirit (soul), Biblical Counseling recognizes there can sometimes be physical causes or contributions to our struggles, so that the appropriate use of medication and similar means may be helpful, while recognizing their limitations.

Conway Biblical Counseling Center

Why are we a free or donation-only counseling service?
We want to give back to our community. We believe Biblical Counseling should be accessible to all, regardless of ability to pay. The Lord Jesus once said, “Freely have ye received, freely give.” The Lord has blessed us; we want to be a blessing to our community.

Why does our center ask people to fill out paperwork before their first visit?
By filling out our forms ahead of your first visit, you will save yourself and our staff time by providing information that can help counseling sessions get off to a productive start instead of spending a lot of time doing what we call “data gathering.” The more we know up-front, the more helpful this is to the counseling process.

How long does each counseling session last?
The answer to this question depends, of course, on the nature of the issue(s) for which you are seeking counsel and our case load for the week. Generally speaking, counseling sessions last from 30 to 60 minutes each.

Does your service require an appointment?
Yes. This helps us plan sessions so as to be as fair as possible to those who scheduled an appointment. This respects the time of the counselee client and the counselor. It also helps the process by providing the counselor, in advance, a completed intake questionnaire.

What about confidentiality?
In addition to God’s blessing, effective counseling is dependent on mutual trust, transparency, and confidentiality. As Biblical counselors, we aim to adhere to the highest standards of confidentiality. However, we also fall under State statutes as mandatory reporting persons, meaning we may not disregard criminal activity. God has given civil authorities to protect the vulnerable (Rom. 13:1-5).

How do I get started?
The best way to start is to download and fill out the Intake Questionnaire by clicking on one of the two links below. Choose the format that’s easier for you to work with (PDF or Word Doc).  Email the completed form to ConwayBiblicalCounseling@gmail.com or, if you prefer, mail it to Conway Biblical Counseling Center, 7 Lake Street, Greenbrier, AR  72058.  After we process your form, we will call or email you to schedule an appointment.
